Due West:: Lake Tahoe

North, South, East or West?
It doesn't matter where we go, or what we'll do when we arrive: BD simply loves being on the road. As it turns out, I drew WEST.1 rainstorm, 2 pit stops, and 8 hours later we were in Lake Tahoe enjoying breathtaking views and crisp mountain air. After some exploring, we bunked up for the night at a lake side lodge near Kings Beach and soaked in a hot tub underneath the moonless starlit sky.In the morning we found creamy hot chocolate and a hearty breakfast inside an unassuming cafe. Such a beautiful day couldn't be wasted in the car alone, so we set out to find some hiking trails.As luck would have it, right away we found a trail to Eagle Lake, which was absolutely stunning. We made a mental note on our places to see again list and vowed to come back when we had more dedicated time. I had to use serious restraint not to jump into the water. It was crystal clear blue and calling my name. But alas, the risk of having someone steal our clothes from the shore was far too great. Next time I won't forget my swimming suit.But just so we're clear...I totally would have done it. A kind soul offered to take our picture, for which we were grateful.Views of Emerald Bay from the trail. Starting to realize that the longer we stay...the longer the drive home. Someday our lives will be completely different. Spontaneity will be but a thing of the past. And new adventures with diapers and first steps will fill our days. But I'm forever grateful for the memories we're making along the way.

That is so cool you just drew out of a hat and went somewhere. That is my dream to just pick up and go somewhere, totally jealous! Tahoe is still on my to do list.

Thanks for this post Gina.. Today I was feeling that I need to get some spontaneity back in my step. Lately everything seems to be so structured and scheduled. Life is too short for that!
You look so cute in the photo with the feather, you are such a natural beauty.

Pick the Northwest and come visit us. That looks like a fun trip! I wish we had a TDI too. Did you do the whole trip on one tank?

This is Debbie not Marc :)

Marc,
We didn't make it in one tank (driving 85+ into a headwind to get there doesn't do too good for the fuel economy). We used a bit less than two tanks, it's 600 miles out there and we did a bit of driving while we were there. We also got one of our worst records ever as far as fuel economy goes. We ended up at about 36 mpg total for the trip. Still not too bad though, but not as good as our 53mpg record.

are you kidding me? when was this? last night on our drive home from orem during the sunset hours i told steve i just wanted to keep driving. for some reason that's my favorite time to be on the road. i want to road trip soooo bad. not sure i do with two kids, so we'll just keep driving to orem and back i suppose. yes, enjoy this while you can. we never had those days together. i guess we will when we're 50.

Lizzy, we went the 2nd half of Labor Day weekend. On the way home BD and I were totally conjuring up our retirement situation with a privately owned big rig that we can haul around the county. We were kidding. Sort of.

You are not kidding about the diapers! I'm not one for long road trips in the car (yes, I do know I am a Duncan), but this looks like lot's of fun!

How many people can really do that-just randomly draw a place to go-good for you. I'd like to get a bit of that freedom back again.
